International Education Study Requirements

International Education

Immigration Requirements

All international students who wish to enroll at Fleming College for more than six months must possess a valid Study Permit. In order to qualify for a study permit, you must first receive a letter of final acceptance from the College. After you have been accepted for a course of study, you must present this letter of acceptance to the nearest Canadian government office to apply for a study permit and visa. An officer there will tell you how to proceed and which of the following documents to get: evidence of your acceptance by Fleming College, evidence of your good character and, if applicable, a letter from your sponsor, certificate of medical clearance, evidence of adequate funds to live and study in Canada, including return transportation, and your valid passport. You will need a passport to enter Canada and return to your own country, or some other country, after your stay in Canada. It is your responsibility to ensure that your passport is valid for the period of time you intend to remain in Canada and for your return home, as your visa will not be renewed without a valid passport.

Study Permits

Upon your arrival in Canada, immigration officers at the port of entry will ask to see the study permit and the visa you received at the Canadian government office abroad, plus the documents you needed to obtain them. If you do not have all the necessary documentation you could be refused entry to Canada. Possession of a visa will give you the right to appeal refused admission at the port of entry to the Immigration Appeal Board. Also, be sure to read carefully the terms and conditions of your authorization [form IMM 1208]. Your study permit must be kept in your passport, for presentation if required at local immigration office, and during trips inside Canada and temporary absences from Canada.

You are responsible to keep your study permit valid. The College International Office will provide supporting documentation for you when you renew your authorization.
